Collection Holocaust-related artefacts

The Vancouver Holocaust Education Centre stewards Western Canada’s largest collection of Holocaust-related artifacts, Holocaust testimonies and archival documents.

It also holds a comprehensive library of books, films, educational resources, as well as rare books and special collections.

The VHEC promotes human rights, social justice, and genocide awareness through education and remembrance of the Holocaust.

The internationally recognized teaching museum has recently been renovated to accommodate the growing demand for Holocaust education.

The new gallery, with its 55ft. long museum display case and exhibition drawers, allow visitors to engage and interact with key themes in Holocaust history, artifacts and documents.

Challenge

Located on the lower floor of the education center, the new gallery had accessibility restrictions for the delivery and installation of these large cases.

Additionally, it was found that the room was too small to assemble all 5 units in a continuous straight line, which is what the initial design intent called for.

Our Solutions

Designed and completed in partnership with David Cunningham Design and Collier Project Leaders, these beautiful cases act as a dividing wall between the gallery and the administration department. They included climate-controlled exhibition drawers and flexible lighting and shelving systems.

Although we could not align all five units due to the lack of space, the fifth unit was installed separately within the same gallery, which provided a wonderful layout.
