The PEM’s $125 million expansion, for which the opening occurred in September 2019, involved the creation of a new wing, designed by Ennead Architects of New York.
Zone was awarded the design and fabrication of the high-quality glass cases for the "Asian Export Gallery", specifically designed to display a variety of artwork from the 14th century to the 21st century.
It features three new galleries, an atrium, a new entry for tours, and a 5,000-square foot garden.
PEM’s Asian Export Art collection, foremost in the world, explores cross-cultural exchange as a catalyst for creativity and celebrates the interplay of commerce and creative expression. The gallery features more than 200 works of art made in diverse media by artists in China, Japan, and South Asia.

The Scope
The scope of work included 24-ft-long wall case to present the Treasures of Chinese Export Ceramics, one of the foremost collections of Chinese export in the world.
A variety of stunning frameless cases highlighting the beauty of clothing and textiles, including a liturgical vestment from the 1600s and a waistcoat from the 1740s.
Our Solutions
Our design process and methodology allowed for a much-appreciated flexibility before launching production.
Our goal was to provide cases that will meet very specific needs and requirements.
A wonderful collaboration between both design teams allowed us to stay within schedule for their grand opening in September 2019.
