The unique history of the Hoover Institution over the past 100 yearser

The exhibition is located in the newly renovated galleries in Hoover Tower.

The renovation project, which was completed during the summer of 2019, enhances the historic architecture of the Hoover Tower galleries with modern features, including new display cases, environmental controls, and lighting.

Among the many rich artifacts on display are Herbert and Lou Henry Hoover’s Stanford diplomas, a manuscript draft of Friedrich von Hayek’s The Road to Serfdom, a fragment of the Berlin Wall, and ephemera from the 2014 Umbrella Movement in Hong Kong.

The Scope

For this project, a series of long freestanding wall cases were designed and built with high conservation requirements to display a variety of sensitive archival materials and historical artifacts from the Hoover Institution.

Challenge

The on-site delivery logistic was certainly the biggest challenge for this project, since there was no interior pathway leading to the gallery from the loading dock. The unloading, storing and handling process of our crates was far more complicated than most projects that we delivered.

Our Solutions

All crates were delivered to the Hoover Institute using their designated unloading area. The building could not accommodate for a large freight truck to deliver, so once arrived in California, we needed to offload and reload our crates onto smaller delivery trucks.

Once delivered on the loading dock, the crates were brought down through an elevator into a storage area located in the basement.

As the installation was progressing, we needed to uncrate all our display cases components into the basement and manually bring them back up to the elevator, then outside and around the building, and finally through the front main entrance. We could then use dollies and bring the components into the gallery.

The whole delivery logistics was handled by our Zone certified technicians, using our own equipment. Everything was handled with care and without any damage.
